Who are the two best central defenders in Europe?

My choices are Rio Ferdinand and Fabio Canavaro. They are not only very intelligent defenders but are extremely good on the ball. They are as good as, if not better than most midfielders on the ball.

Why these two?

1. Rafa Marquez can score and takes free kicks. He can play as both a central defender and as a defensive midfielder and often plays long balls to Ronaldinho and other strikers up front. He also plays well with Puyol and often when Puyol is having problems dribbling he passes to Rafa Marquez, who can dribble to midfield and distribute the ball.

2. Fabio Cannavaro is quick and this past weekend I saw him with the Italian team make up ground and run 50 yards to slide tackle a forward and win the ball. He is fast and marks all strikers well. He can play the entire 90 minutes at full speed and is rarely injured. He even wins headers for his short stature.

I would say cannavaro and Terry. Cannavaro is a rock who is physical with the forwards and can run all day. Terry is also a physical player and very savvy with the ball.
